A Vegan Bomb Explodes on Chinatown

Before you go searching the news feeds…this was a bomb of love and kindness and amazing food…nobody was hurt, not even one animal, and many people have already received great pleasure and satisfaction from a restaurant that has recently exploded upon our local food scene.  I am talking about Veggie House on Spring Mountain, just about a block west of Decatur. This vegetarian/vegan Chinese restaurant has prompted more people to encourage me to visit than any other that I can remember.  I could not visit last month because of my month of eating raw vegan, so I took the first opportunity I could to visit Veggie House.

Veggie House is a revelation.  It is not only the best vegan Chinese that I have ever had, it is just amazing food period.  The entire menu is vegan except for a few items.  It has an array of vegan non-meat products that defy logic.  It is the type of place that will melt the heart and satisfy the palate of any vegetarian, vegan, v-curious, or even a hardcore carnivore.  Veggie House is under the skillful hand of Chef Kenny, a talented veg-chef who had three restaurants in San Diego before moving to Las Vegas. It is an inviting spot upstairs in the complex next to the large Asian market.  You can even drive up the ramp and around the building and come in the back door.  They make it easy for you to get wowed.

I had been told to try the Veggie Beef Rolls as an appetizer and I enjoyed those very much.  On my second visit Chef Kenny brought out a Veggie Hand Roll that was spectacular as well.  For my entree on both occasions I had one of the house specialties,  the Spicy Crispy Beef, which is crispy soy beef surrounded by steamed broccoli and covered with crushed peanuts and their tasty sauce.  I am just going to tell you that it was so good that I had to come back in and have it again.  It is almost like I could not believe what I had eaten the first time.  The second visit confirmed how amazing this dish really is.  I shared a little bit of what my friend Steve Rypka was having, the Braised Tofu with Vegetables, and it was terrific as well.

I mentioned to Chef Kenny that I would be back over time to sample the rest of the menu, perhaps a couple of dishes at a time and he just smiled.  I have never had the desire to do that anywhere else here in Las Vegas other than Pura Vida.  If you are vegan, vegetarian, v-curious, or just hungry…walk, run, bicycle, drive, fly or whatever your mode of choice and get to Veggie House in the Chinatown corridor on Spring Mountain here in Las Vegas. We need to give them some v-love and let them serve us some wonderful, delicious, and kind food to enjoy and then spread the word.  You will love the friendly staff and everything about Veggie House.  I am still feeling the shockwaves.
