A Sandwich to Remember…

If you live out near the Eastern Ave. corridor in Henderson, you have probably no doubt already heard about or visited Bread and Butter.  Another wonderful addition to our local restaurant scene featuring house-baked breads and goods for breakfast and lunch.  Although they don’t have a large menu there is such an artisan feel to the foods that they produce.  They also feature one of best selections of bottled root beers that you will find, most of them natural and nice to be able to enjoy as a special treat.

The menu is not expansive but they have some vegan-friendly items available with some modification.  The Chopped Kale Salad with toasted almonds, alfalfa sprouts, English cucumbers, and a sunflower seed vinaigrette needs no modifying.  I chose to modify the Eggplant Grilled Cheese sandwich by having them leave off the cheeses and pesto.  Not needed at all to make this sandwich memorable.  They can serve it on a baguette or bagel as vegan options.  I selected the baguette and it was the right choice.  Grilled asparagus and zucchini, roasted eggplant spread, and tomato sauce.  Served with a side salad with greens and dried cranberries.  This was a seriously good sandwich.  Every bite was spectacular and the fresh, chewy baguette was perfect.

Sometimes you only need one or two options to keep a restaurant on your vegan-friendly map.  It is no big deal to have something modified to fit your dietary/ethical needs.  They are happy to do it.  The result is worth coming back for again and again.  Take the bread, hold the butter…and enjoy a root beer and a veggie sandwich to remember.
