I wonder why it takes me seemingly so long to make my way to certain places that I have heard so many good things about.  Komex Fusion Express is one of those places.  I have heard directly from people and read a number of articles about this little restaurant a couple of blocks north of the 95 on Decatur.  I am usually over in this area on Mondays but alas, this is the one day of the week that they are closed.  So, I did what any semi-intelligent and hungry person would do…I went on another day.

I am so glad that I did.  Everyone there is so welcoming to you and immediately you feel right at home.  KoMex is a fusion restaurant blending the flavors and wonders of Mexico and Korea together.  Trust me, it works. Almost any item on the menu can have veggies or tofu or both added to it instead of meat.  So that is just what I did.  I started out with a Fusion Taco on small round corn tortillas that had the veggies and tofu with marniated green and purple cabbage, onions, cilantro, pico de gallo, and some of the hot sauces that were provided.  The two corn tortillas were piled high with goodness and there was no way it would all fit in one so I divided it in two. Absolutely delicious.

I also like that they bring out fresh chips and salsa and guacamole while you are waiting for your food.  Way above average.  I also ordered a Fusion Burrito with a flour tortilla with the BBQ tofu, veggies, Mexican rice, green and brown onions, pico de gallo, cilantro, lettuce, and a soy-sesame based sauce.  Hello…you had me at fusion.  This was terrific.  The hot sauces kicked it up a notch and I know that I had never quite tasted anything like it before. What a treat.  They brought out some fresh orange slices with a little spear to end things up and it was a perfect ending to a great meal.  You can be assured I won’t wait so long to come back…and when I do…you will hear about it again.
