I seem to have a hard time recalling a falafel-anything that I did not enjoy.  They always manage to find a way to please.  I have had these wonderful little nuggets of chickpeas, grains, veggies, and spices on their own…in wraps…in sandwiches…and wrapped in pitas. I enjoy it all and falafel has become a staple in my diet.  Many different places put their own spin on the falafel but they always manage to please.  So it was no wonder that I found some falafel to my liking at Olives Mediterranean Grill and Hookah Lounge.

You can find falafels there as well as a variety of hummus options, taboulleh, and other vegan-friendly treats.  I took a peek into the hookah lounge with the subdued lighting and  fragranced smoke wafting through the air.  They also have pool tables and other things to occupy others when they are not eating.  I ordered a Whole-Wheat Falafel-Stuffed Pita and I got two halves stuffed with chunks of falafel, tomatoes, onions, and tahini sauce. Depending on the kind of pita they are using shapes my preference for how the falafel is served.  With the thicker pita I like them folded in half with the falafel tucked in side.  With the thinner pita I like the pita bread cut in half and the mixture stuffed inside.  These were the thinner pitas and both halves were stuffed to overflow.

A falafel pita is a simple but wonderful food choice.  It provides flavor, texture, and is an excellent protein source.  They are fairly light to eat but fill you up nicely.  It is wonderful to reflect that you are eating something that is good for you and is such a kind and flavorful alternative to meat.  I suppose one day I will find a falafel that I did not care for…but this Whole Wheat Falafel Pita from Olives Mediterranean Grill would not be one of them.  It was good to the last bite.  Definitely my kind of fast food…I think they should be yours as well. Perhaps one day we can hope to see a McFalafel on every corner as well.
