Well there is a new light that is shining down in the Downtown Arts District and it is ready to bring fresh and delicious sandwiches, salads, soups and other wonderful things your way…and it is simply called Simpo Sandwich. Located on E. Charleston almost directly across from the Charleston Arts Factory is a sandwich shop that is colorful and alive and where everyone greets you and will undoubtedly know and remember your name. They offer free Wi-Fi and encourage people to grab something to eat and drink and just hang out a while.

There is nothing quite like it in the area.  I like the fact that they are very vegan-friendly are going to continue to expand their offerings in this area. They have a vegetarian sandwich section on the menu and all of these can easily be modified to be vegan.  The Spicy Vegetarian sandwich is already vegan and was my choice for the day. You have a choice for this sandwich of either focaccia bread or a ciabatta roll and I went with the focaccia.  

The sandwich had wonderful flavor to it with a spicy Sriracha sauce and filled with zucchini, carrots, a medley of bell peppers, and red onions. The veggies were great and I would have liked more of them in the sandwich. The next time I will try a sandwich with the ciabatta roll and see what they can do with that.  The staff is wonderful and very friendly and it was great to see how they interacted with the customers.  There is seating at the counter, which I liked, or other seating at small tables as well.  While Simpo Sandwich is open now from 9 to 5 daily, they will be open on First Friday…the next one being on June 1…so stop by and see them between now and certainly then and let them help you get your veggies on.
