Eating Vegan In Vegas

To Barcelona With Love

What is there not to love about tapas.  Some plates of something wonderful that you can mix and match to create a terrific dining experience.  We are fortunate to have a number of great tapas restaurants here in town now. One that may be off your radar but certainly but whose co-ordinates should be programmed in is Barcelona Tapas and Bar in the Southern Highlands area.  Tucked away in a Smiths Shopping Center it is great place to go and eat and just be and maybe take advantage of some great happy hour deals or listen to some music.

You have be a little creative at most tapas restaurants because they tend to go very heavy towards the meat, fish, and cheese. Yet you can always finds your way to something vegan-friendly to enjoy.  I started out under the cold tapas with some gazpacho.  Rather than just a cold soup of finely cut vegetables, they blend their gazpacho and it was very refreshing and good. Tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, celery, and spices.  I then ordered their Couscous…which was a little different because it had black beans, corn, cilantro, and other spices mixed in which made for a delightful little mound of goodness.

I finished things off with some Barcelona Fries…very light and seasoned with garlic, parsley, and other spices that made them almost impossible not to eat. You can just ask them to bring out some plant-based dipping sauce for them instead of the aioli sauce.  Along with a nice glass of wine it was a wonderful little meal…not too filling but very satisfying.  If you find yourself in the south end of the Valley…know that a little corner of Barcelona and their small plates are waiting for you.
